An Active Spine is a Healthy Spine
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare 56% of Australians are not sufficiently physically active! As we come out of COVID lockdown and winter hibernation, it is important we get our bodies mobile and strong for Summer and what better way than putting our best foot forward and start walking for our wellbeing.
While we are living in more mobile times thanks to technology, physically we are less active. The human body is designed for movement, so to keep your spine at its best we need to stay active – it’s time to lace up the sneakers and put simply, just start walking.
"Just Start Walking" is a health initiative of the Australian Chiropractors Association (ACA), designed to raise awareness about the importance of keeping active and the team at Narrabeen Chiropractic are using this to highlight the importance of posture and mobility on our overall health and wellbeing.
Brisk walking is great for improving your cardiovascular health, correcting your posture, relieving stress to the spine, as well as reducing the risk of a wide range of common health complaints.
Walking is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Making a commitment to walking 30 minutes a day is a wonderful way to ensure you are experiencing the benefits or regular exercise and can be used as a gateway to more challenging exercises.
Another way to get started with walking is by downloading the Just Start Walking app, developed by the ACA. Users of the Just Start Walking app can walk anytime, anywhere with the app mapping your walks, tracking kilometres, saving walks and displaying local walks. The app also allows users to set reminders to receive a notification of when it’s time to walk.
Your overall health can be affected by the health of your spine, so there's no time like the present to make an appointment to assess your spinal health and incorporate some more regular activity into your lifestyle.
